Bayonetta is a stylish and cinematic action game, directed by Devil May Cry creator Hideki Kamiya, set for release in 2009 on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. A member of an ancient witch clan and possessing powers beyond the comprehension of mere mortals, Bayonetta faces-off against countless angelic enemies, many reaching epic proportions, in a game of 100% pure, unadulterated all-out action. Outlandish finishing moves are performed with balletic grace as Bayonetta flows from one fight to another. With magnificent over-the-top action taking place in stages that are a veritable theme park of exciting attractions, Bayonetta pushes the limits of the action genre, bringing to life its fast-paced, dynamic climax combat……..

“One of the best action game I have played since the original DMC” 2010-04-29
By K. Liu (TX USA)
I havent felt so attached to an action game like this for a long time. This game has a very fast-paced gameplay design, lots of things going on the screen at the same time, it has a selection of great soundtracks too. My personal favourite so far being Theme of Bayonetta. The dialogue is purposefully cheesy, Bayonetta herself speaks in british accent, and I will admit her design is pretty damn sexy.

Got the game last Friday afternoon, started playing on Normal setting and when I realized it it was already Saturday night, with credit(and a few surprises!) rolling. Finished up on hard setting for the past few days and my total game time is around 25hours so far. and I still have loads of items not yet unlocked, and another difficulty mode to finish. I would say this game has loads of replay value.

It is really fun using combos in this game! so many different combinations, but I do find myself stick to some easier to use combos. :P

Highly recommanded to both action game beginners and hardcore gamers.

“Just a lot of fun to play” 2010-04-23
By M. Pureka (Somerville, MA United States)
For all that this game is getting hype about the sexualization of the protagonist and the ridiculous camerawork and the like, underneath all the self-parody is an incredibly solid game with excellent controls and thoroughly entertaining gameplay. While the storyline borders on (and frequently crosses over into) the ridiculous and/or incomprehensible, at the end of the day, that’s not why you’re playing this. Bayonetta is FUN. Combat – the core of the gameplay – is accessable, challenging and deep, and only rarely interrupted by ‘puzzle’ and ‘platform’ segments.

While this title was compared to Darksiders fairly heavily due to the timing of the release of both games, and the fact that both are 3rd person action games, fundamentally, they are extremely dissimilar. Where Darksiders has shallow combat and extensive puzzle/platforming segments, combat in Bayonetta is varied, interesting, and entertaining, and rarely off center stage for more than a couple of minutes.

If you have any doubts about this title, I suggest trying out the demo – it’s extremely representative of how the game plays, as well as its unique… visual style. If you enjoy the demo, the full game is more of the same with icing on top.

“Repetitive Repetitive Repetitive Repetitive Repetitive” 2010-04-22
By C. Helm (USA)
First, I think that this game is repetitive if you didn’t guess that already.

For all the people that want to talk about infinite combos and other stuff like that, that doesn’t mean the GAME is not repetitive.

I can play Super Mario Brothers left handed, or facing backwards while looking in a mirror, with my left eye closed, with my right eye closed, while laying down, or while standing on my head. There are infinite combos for how I play SMB, but that doesn’t mean that the GAME is not repetitive.

This is the game. Go to point A, and fight 3 guys. Go to point B and fight 4 guys. Repeat. Go to point Z and fight boss.

Repeat.

In the end, I dropped the difficulty from the hardest to the easiest just so that I could blow through it and finish it to see the ending. I don’t really feel that I missed out on much.

This game is cheesy, but in a bit of a good way. At times I found myself chuckling at the horrible dialog, and at times I found myself wanting to throw the controller through the screen to shut a guy up. But, if you are a fan of the over the top cheesyness then you will like this game.

Just for the record, I like Devil May Cry, and Ninja Gaiden. I would rate both in the 4-5 star range.

 “Bayonetta” 2010-03-19
By Gregory N. Blasingame (MCDONOUGH, GEORGIA, US)
Definitely a game worth the money. I rarely find that a game is worth $50.00+, but this is definitely one of them. The action is non-stop and crazy at times. The sheer imagination put into this game is staggering. Although it follows a Devil May Cry pattern, it is truley a unique game worth the admission.

 “50% Movie + 50% Game = 100% Epic” 2010-03-14
By Dmitry Kristal (Brooklyn, NY United States)
The Good:

* Non-stop action even after the credits roll.

* Lots of weapons and spells for Bayonetta to use.

* One of the best soundtracks in a video game in a long time.

* Great replay value and difficulty levels to fit any gamer.

* Great story pulls you in, which makes it hard to put the controller down.

* Great use of animation and cinematics.

The Bad:

* Button-mashing may not appeal to everyone.

* Some camera angles may get in the way.

The Bottom Line:

If I have to compare this game to another, I would have to say that its probably “Heavenly Sword” for PS3. Since Heavenly Sword was a PS3 exclusive, XBOX360 users can immerse themselves into exciting adventure of Bayonetta. For those who wonder why this game is Rated “M” for mature: While Bayonetta is an eye candy, there is no nudity or sexual situations in this game. However, there are plenty of f-words to go around. Why did they decide to put in the f-words and make it Rated-M instead of Rated-T is beyond me, but regardless almost everything about this game is great. Soundtrack fits well. One of the first tracks you’ll hear will be a Frank Sinatra remix of “Fly Me to the Moon,” which is worth the price of admission alone. In terms of battles, the game relies mostly on button mashing, but there are also other elements, which include spell-like abilities and item forging. You earn halos along the way for defeating enemies that you can redeem for new and more powerful items.

Looking at 1-star reviews, I noticed a common complaint, which is last boss being hard. Please do not let it scare you away. This game has several difficulties. As soon as I got stuck on Normal, I switched it to Easy(yes, you can switch difficulties in mid-game, so you don’t have to restart!) I actually defeated(barely) last boss on my first try. Even if you can’t, there is also a Very Easy difficulty that I personally haven’t tried, but I’m sure it will be suitable for beginners.

I will not spoil the game for you, but as I said, this is part movie-part game. You will spend a lot of time watching the cinematics between all the action(I believe at one point, the cinema lasted for 5 minutes.) It is that combination that pulls you in as you watch the movie and then get to be a part of it.
